SMIPA Program

Top Education Group is an approved provider for the Skilled Migration Internship Program (SMIPA). To ease the current skills shortage in accountants, SMIPA has been co-initiated by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) and three professional accounting bodies - CPA Australia, Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and Institute of Public Accountants.

SMIPA is available to all overseas students who have obtained an accounting qualification (such as Bachelor of Commerce-Accounting or a Master of Professional Accounting and Business) as a result of at least two years study in Australia. Students who do not meet the criteria for a General Skilled Migration visa may undertake the SMIPA on a Skilled-Graduate (Temporary) visa (subclass 485).

SMIPA involves training divided between coursework and internship placement with a relevant host company. Coursework focuses on business communication skills and Australian workplace knowledge and skills. Expert industry professionals will present throughout the course. The internship involves placement with a host organisation, supervised and mentored by a professional accountant. SMIPA also provides supervision of personal career development.
