Program Overview

This one-semester course will introduce students to the foundations of a range of key business disciplines and their application to contemporary business environments. These foundation units, in turn, will enable the further study of more specialised units in key business disciplines and fields such as marketing and international business and/or business administration. The course allows students to study a range of foundation units in fields such as marketing, human resource management, accounting, finance, organisational behaviour, and economics. The course provides an entry platform for further Diploma and Masters’ degrees in marketing, international business and business administration. Key learning outcomes are:

  • Theoretical and technical knowledge about a range of key business disciplines
  • Application of theoretical and technical knowledge and skills to diverse organisational contexts
  • Analysis and solution of routine and complex business problems
  • Professional development in communication, teamwork and problem solving

Entry Requirements The completion of a three-year Australian bachelor’s degree in any field or a higher-level qualification is required. International students with equivalent qualifications are eligible.
Applicants with at least five years’ relevant work experience and no degree are eligible for entry.
IELTS Academic minimum overall score of 6.5 with no individual band less than 6.0.

Credit arrangement Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available and will be assessed in accordance with TOP's RPL policy and procedure. Please refer to the Application for Credit Recognition form and the RPL policy and procedure for further details. 
Course Structure

The following units are available for credit in a Graduate Certificate in Business. However, students intending to proceed beyond the Graduate Certificate to a Graduate Diploma course or a Master’s course must select the specific four units applicable to the Graduate Certificate component of that higher level course.

To qualify for the award of Graduate Certificate in Business, a student must complete an aggregate of 4 core subjects (24 units of credit).

Career Options  This one-semester course is an introductory program in business and its key disciplines. It is suitable for students seeking to work in the fields of management, marketing and international business and is an entry program into Graduate Diploma and Master’s degree studies in marketing, international business and business administration (MBA).
Further Study TOP's articulation agreement with the University of Newcastle (UoN) will allow students who complete the GCBM at TOP to transfer to the UoN Master of Applied Finance, Master of Professional Accounting or Master of Professional Accounting (Advanced) with full recognition of their TOP GCBM subjects.
