 Unit Overview:
This unit is an overview of financial technologies presently innovating the way money is managed by institutions and consumers. Students will investigate the disruptive effect financial technologies is having on traditional practices in advanced economies, and the impact financial technologies are having on mobile financial services in developing economies through access to low-cost internet connected devices (e.g. smartphone). The use of blockchains to lower transactions costs in financial markets while maintaining data integrity is considered. This leads to an introduction to technological development in related commercial markets such as real estate (“PropTech”) and regulatory systems (“RegTech”).
